Men’s Bible Study
Men’s Bible Study meets Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm during the Mighty Oaks’ season.
To give you an idea of what our group is like, we thought it may help to give you a look inside a couple of our recent studies.
In A Game Plan for Life by Joe Gibbs, we discussed how even though we may be an “average Joe”, we can have a winning game plan for life in Christ. We discussed different aspects of life, relationships, finances, purpose, and how the Bible has a written game plan that we can use to guide us every day. A favorite video clip from the study was when Coach Dabo Swinney shared how he leaned on God when making the decision whether or not to take the head coaching job for the Clemson Tigers. Since taking that position in 2008, Coach Swinney has led his team to victory in the College Football Playoff National Championship two of the last three seasons, the most recent being this past January. Here’s a video clip from Coach Swinney.
Another study was Shaken by Tim Tebow. Even if you aren’t into football, you are probably familiar with Tim Tebow. He is a Heisman Trophy winner turned NFL professional quarterback who has been unshaken in his faith in Christ. In this study, he delves into things that are sometimes hard for men to talk about—things that we tend to bottle up because we’re taught to be tough—that solid rock for our loved ones. Tim uses examples of Biblical “players”, key people that God used in the past to fulfill His will and shape their destiny as children of God. Some of those topics are:
-
Release bitterness from past hurts and trust in a loving God
-
Recognize and use your talents to make a difference in the world
-
Remain resilient and grounded in your faith despite extraordinary odds
If anyone is qualified to speak on adversity, Tim’s the guy. In Shaken, Tim shares what he’s learned during the highs and the lows of his journey in the NFL. Through it all, however, he has learned to lean on the One he could trust, the maker and creator of all things, Jesus Christ!
“It’s not about who you are, it’s whose you are!”
